“As a photographer I tend to visualize the world around me in individual images. I compose in my head, even before I take a camera to my eye. Often I will imagine the scenes in black and white. The scenes that play out for me are made up of light and shadow or various levels of contrast and include much of the natural world in which I travel. Our natural world is changing all the time and through my lens I’ve tried to capture a moment in time, allowing the viewer to get really close to observe the textures, the intricacies, and wonder that one could so easily miss.

I like to immerse myself in places, events and activities to capture or document peoples interaction with life around them. I spent a great deal of time at the 150th Lancaster Fair, to find the activity beyond the amusements and cotton candy. The young, the old and the 4-legged in these scenes have worked hard to come to this showplace. In these images their fortitude is brought to the front.” — Douglas Weisman
